Lion’s mane (extract, powder and capsules)
The lion’s mane (Hericium erinaceus) has become increasingly popular in the last few years due to its potential to eliminate stress and bring more focus and balance into our lives. With our hectic everyday lives, that is not surprising.
From us you can buy lion’s mane as extract, powder and extract or powder capsules.
Properties and ingredients of the lion’s mane mushroom
Cultivation of the Hericium mushroom began in Shanghai in the 1950s and is now grown in other parts of the world. With an extremely wide range of flavors, it is a popular edible mushroom and delicacy, especially in Asia, where its taste is reminiscent of seafood with a citrus note.
Hericium’s appearance is also unmistakable: its imposing fruiting body is covered with white to cream-colored soft spines, giving it the English name “lion’s mane”.
It’s however not just great on the plate but a very valuable medicinal mushroom as well. Lion’s mane contains all eight essential amino acids as well as zinc, iron, selenium, and organic germanium.
The mushroom also has a high content of polysaccharides and polypeptides. Cholesterol-lowering phytosterols such as beta-sitosterol and ergosterol have also been detected. Hericium also contains erinacin, which seem to be the ingredient behind the mushroom’s potential to stimulate nerve growth.
Lion’s mane use cases in research and practice
Lion’s mane has been known for centuries for its ability to regulate the body and mind. The mushroom’s calming effect on anxiety, sleep disorders, and stress reduction has been widely studied. There are also other interesting studies on Hericium as an adjunct therapy for certain nervous disorders. A possible linkage between lion’s mane and nerve repair has also been found. Furthermore, it’s also commonly used for gastrointestinal disorders. Some studies have also showed that the mushroom could help in weight management by improving fat metabolism.

Product Specifications
Capsules
Alongside mushroom extract or powder, these capsules also include organic acerola extract, known for its exceptionally high vitamin C content. Research indicates that vitamin C greatly enhances the body's ability to absorb the active compounds in medicinal mushroom extracts. The capsule shell is made from hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, making it entirely vegan.
Packaging
Powders and extracts are available in 1 kg, 5 kg and 25 kg containers, capsules in 2000 pieces/bag. All orders of 1 or 5 kg are packed in PE bags in a bucket, 25 kg orders come in a paper drum.
Shelf life and storage conditions
For extracts and powders: 4 years when properly stored: at room temperature or lower, in a tightly closed package that keeps the raw materials protected from light, humidity and insects. For capsules: 48 months after production date when properly stored: at a dry, cool place (room temperature or lower) and protected from sunlight.
Production methods
The mushroom fruiting bodies are ground, passed through metal detection, then subjected to hot water extraction. The liquid extract is centrifuged and spray-dried. The typical extraction ratio ranges from 8:1 to 11:1. We standardize all extracts to contain 30% polysaccharides.
Powder: The mushroom fruiting bodies are simply ground and screened for metal contaminants.
Capsules: The process involves weighing the raw materials (either powder or extract), blending them thoroughly, encapsulating the mixture, and cleaning the finished capsules.
Cultivation and growing material
We grow our mushrooms in their natural habitat, the Chinese highlands, and rely on the expertise of local farmers. Chaga is one of our mushroom species that we don’t grow, but harvest from birch trees in northeastern China. The organic collection is done according to the actual valid EU regulations.
